How to Create and Edit Custom Dashboards in Analytics Overview

How to Create and Edit Custom Dashboards in CARMA College

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of creating and editing custom dashboards in the Analytics Overview section of our platform. Whether you're new to CARMA or just need a refresher, follow along with these step-by-step instructions to get your custom dashboard up and running.

1. Accessing the Analytics Overview

First, navigate to the Overview section in the main menu. Select Analytics Overview to open the CARMA Analytics Homepage, where you'll have access to your analytics tools and dashboards.

2. Creating a New Dashboard

To create a new dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Under the dashboard navigation menu, click on Create New Dashboard.
  2. You will be prompted to enter a unique ID. This unique ID will serve as the identifier for the dashboard in the URL, and it must consist of alphanumeric characters and underscores.
  3. After entering your unique ID, provide a Dashboard Name that will be displayed in the dashboard interface.

3. Setting Dashboard Permissions

Next, you will need to set the permission level for your dashboard. There are three options to choose from:

  • Public – Only Me: The dashboard will be visible to all project users, but only you will have the ability to edit it.
  • Public – All Admins: The dashboard will be visible to all project users, and other project admins will also have the ability to edit it.
  • Private: This option restricts access to the dashboard, making it visible and editable only to you.

Once you’ve selected the appropriate permission level, you can begin customizing your dashboard with widgets.

4. Adding Widgets to Your Dashboard

Widgets are interactive elements such as charts, filters, or KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) that you can add to your custom dashboard to visualize data. Follow these steps to add widgets:

  1. Click Add Widget to begin selecting widgets for your dashboard.
  2. You will then be presented with a range of editing options for the widget, including:
    • Widget Title: Give your widget a descriptive title.
    • Chart Type: Select the type of chart or visualization you want to display.
    • Size: Adjust the widget size to fit within your dashboard layout.
  3. Once you’ve customized the widget to your satisfaction, click Save.

Your widget will now appear in the Selected Widgets section. From here, you can further edit or delete widgets as needed.

Note: The available editing options may vary depending on the type of widget selected. We encourage you to explore the different widget settings to get familiar with how each one works.

5. Using a Custom Template

If you’d like to speed up the process, you can choose a pre-designed layout from the Template Dropdown Menu. Templates allow you to quickly apply a predefined arrangement of widgets to your dashboard.

6. Saving and Viewing Your Dashboard

Once you’re happy with the layout and widget selection, click Save and Close. This will finalize your dashboard and take you back to the main dashboard view, where you can see your newly created custom dashboard in action.

7. Editing Your Dashboard

If you need to make further changes to your dashboard, click on the Actions button and select Edit Dashboard. The Actions button also provides access to several additional features, including:

  • Export to PDF: Download a copy of your dashboard in PDF format.
  • Customize Dashboard Colors: Adjust the color scheme of your dashboard to match your preferences.
  • Present Mode: Use this option to display your dashboard in a live slideshow format, perfect for presentations.
