# How to use filters

## Filters let you control exactly which coverage is shown, across both the Articles page and your automated dashboards.

> You can apply **multiple filters at the same time** to narrow your results as precisely as you need.

#### Open the filters

1. Select the **Filters** button in the top-right corner of the page. This works on both the **Articles** page and automated dashboards.

#### Essential and Advanced filters

Filters are divided into two sections:

- **Essential** — date range, media type and outlet tiers.
- **Advanced** — more granular filters such as outlets, outlet countries and tags.

#### Apply a filter

1. Select the filter you want to use.
2. Choose the options you need and apply them.

#### Set a date range

For date range, choose a preset **Timeframe**, or select **Custom Range** and pick the individual dates you need.

#### Other filters

For other filters, such as media type, scroll down in the filters panel and select the options that apply.
