Welcome to CARMA College! This guide walks you through the process of editing your newsletter step by step. Before starting, ensure you’ve completed the tutorial on creating newsletters and selected your desired template with its sections set up.
1. Getting Started
The Newsletter Edit section lets you customize the components and style of your newsletter.
Overview of the Editing Interface:
- Left-hand side: Displays the newsletter components, such as image and text blocks and any article sections you’ve added.
- If sections are not created yet, go to the Sections Tab to complete that step.
- Right-hand side: Displays the Edit Menu for making design and style adjustments.
Key tip: When there are no specific article sections selected. Any changes in the Edit Menu will apply to the overall newsletter design.
2. Using the Edit Menu
The Edit Menu is divided into four tabs:
- Components: Add elements like images, charts, text, or new sections. The default template simplifies this process with pre-configured elements.
- Styles: Adjust text size, color, and alignment.
- Design: Customize background colors, headers, and footers.
- Settings: Modify details such as phrases or date formats in your newsletter.
Remember: After making changes in any tab, press Save to keep your edits.
3. Editing Individual Sections
Editing a Text Block:
- Hover over a text component on the left-hand side.
- It will highlight in black with an Edit Bar displayed.
- Click the pencil icon in the top-right corner of the component.
- The Edit Menu updates with options for the selected text block. Adjust its content, style, or settings as needed.
- Once finished, press Save.
Editing an Image Block:
- Hover over the image block and click the pencil icon.
- The Edit Menu updates with options for the image.
- Use the Image Tab to:
- Resize the image.
- Upload a new image by clicking the camera icon.
- Once satisfied, press Save.
4. Editing Article Sections
Editing an Article Block:
- Hover over the article block and click the pencil icon.
- The Content Tab in the Edit Menu will open, allowing you to adjust:
- Text formatting: bold, italics, alignment, and font size.
- Light/dark mode toggles.
- Placeholders such as
outlet_link
,publish_date
,country
,headline_text
, andsummary
. (These placeholders are replaced with live data when the newsletter is sent.)
Customization Options:
- Add or remove placeholders via the placeholder icon.
- Toggle options for:
- Showing or hiding section headers.
- Displaying filters.
- Adding summary links.
- Grouping content by title.
- Showing metadata icons like publication details.
Note: Metadata icons appear only if corresponding data exists on the platform.
Once adjustments are made, press Save.5. Adding and Editing a Chart Block
- Drag a chart block into your newsletter.
- Click the pencil icon to edit it.
- Use the Chart Tab to:
- Select the data type and preferred chart style.
- Apply data filters in the Filters Tab.
- Once satisfied, press Save.
6. Finishing Up
Once you’ve completed your edits:
- Save your work as a Draft.
