Set up alerts

Know as soon as you're mentioned with tailored real-time & spike alerts.

Easily set up real time alerts in the notification centre to stay ahead of your news and social media mentions. 

You can choose from three types of alerts.

  • Real Time Alerts - An instant push notification for a single article, that matches your chosen criteria.
  • Volume Spike Alerts - A push notification, for a volume spike in news coverage. You can set your own percentage increase vs. time formula, e.g., 150% increase in coverage in a rolling 3 hour time period. 
  • Audience Threshold Alerts - An instant push notification for a single article, with an audience size over a certain threshold, for example, a twitter mention from a handle with more than 10,000 followers. 

You can choose to have alerts delivered via Email or Mobile App. 

Some Useful Tips: 

  • Alerts are tied to the crawler frequency of the CARMA Crawler
  • On Alerts, you can use your preferred newsletter template, this can be created via the Newsletter Template tool. 

Setting up an Alert

Firstly navigate to Reporting Tools > Alerts.

To set up a new alert, click on the ‘Add New Alert’ button in the above screenshot, and the user will have the following three options: 

  • Real Time Alert
  • Volume Spike Threshold 
  • Audience Benchmark 

Real Time Alert

An instant push notification for a single article, that matches a user's own settings

Following Options are available:

  • Name: For internal naming references only
  • Email Subject: Text will appear in the alert email subject line
  • Notification Delivery: User can select ‘Email’ or ‘App’ (note: CARMA App must be doanloaded to users mobile device to use app notification)
  • Template: A user can choose from their pre-set Newsletter templates
  • Notification Type: Real Time Alerts - Volume Spike Threshold - Audience Threshold
  • Tags: User can select specific Tags to receive Alerts for
  • Media Types: User can select specific media types
  • Locations: User can select content from outlets by country
  • Language: User can select the language of content they are interested in
  • Tiers: User can select the Outlet Tier they are only interested in receiving (note: Outlet Tiers need to be active on the project to see this field). 
  • Sentiment: Choose from Positive / Neutral / Negative
  • Notification Time Frame: Toggle on to activate the time frame for when the notifications will be sent

Volume Spike Alert

A push notification, for a volume spike in news coverage. You can set your own percentage increase vs. time formula, e.g., 150% increase in coverage in a rolling 3 hour time period. 

Following Options are available:

  • Notification Delivery: User can select ‘Email’ or ‘App’ (note: CARMA App must be downloaded to users mobile device to use app notification)
  • Template: A user can choose from their pre-set Newsletter templates
  • Notification Type: Real Time Alerts - Volume Spike Threshold - Audience Threshold
  • Tags: User can select specific Tags to receive Alerts for
  • Media Types: User can select specific media types
  • Locations: User can select content from outlets by country
  • Language: User can select the language of content they are interested in
  • Tiers: User can select the Outlet Tier they are only interested in receiving (note: Outlet Tiers need to be active on the project to see this field). 
  • Sentiment: Choose from Positive / Neutral / Negative
  • Notification Time Frame: Toggle on to activate the time frame for when the notifications will be sent
  • Volume Spike Alert Formula: Choose the percentage increase amount, against a specific time period X no. of Hours / Days / Weeks

Audience Threshold Alert

An instant push notification for a single article, with an audience size over a certain threshold, that a user can set themselves, e.g., a twitter mention from a handle with more than 10,000 followers. 

Following Options are available:

  • Name: For internal naming references only
  • Email Subject: Text will appear in the alert email subject line
  • Notification Delivery: You can select ‘Email’ or ‘App’. Note: for App notification you need to download the CARMA Mobile APP to your phone or tablet.
  • Template: Choose from your pre-set newsletter templates. 
  • Notification Type: Real Time Alerts - Volume Spike Threshold - Audience Threshold
  • Tags: Select specific Tags to receive Alerts for
  • Media Types: Select specific media types
  • Audience Benchmark: Select the audience metric based on the media type, for Social this is based on the number of followers a handle has, for other media types it is based on the outlet's impressions number. 
  • Notification Time Frame: Toggle on to activate the time frame for when the notifications will be sent

Once you've chosen your settings, click 'Add New Alert' and you're all set up. Your alert will start and you'll get the first one once any content meets your alert criteria.

To stop an alert, delete it from the Alerts list - Edit > Delete.
